Had all kinds of plans to turn a few pens and some turnings for Christmas gifts. However, life threw a curve ball and plans went out the window. Series of nose bleeds, ER visits and, finally, treatment at the doctor's office yesterday. Couldn't do anything for fear of starting things over. Doctor told me to take it easy. So this puts me three weeks behind. Best laid plans of mice and men? Fortunately, Dr. Wife has been most supportive and helpful. I guess I made a good choice 53-1/2 years ago.

Sounds like your nose could use a break from all those CA fumes ;) Get feeling better soon, the wood will still be there when you're ready.

Thanks, Billy. Have followup next Tuesday. Hope to the all clear signal. Do you have any idea how many YouTube videos there are on woodturning and penturning?

Rest is one of the hardest "remedies" that some people can do. I am one. Hope you get your prescribed rest and come back strong!

Sorry to hear about your situation. Hope things go great at your follow up next week. I've been on sort of a hiatus from pen turning myself, but I did turn a small oven rack Push-Pull stick for out toaster oven this morning. Follow the doc's orders and take care of yourself! - Dave

I discovered the part of surgery I most dislike is not being able to turn for the prescribed recuperation period. By the end of the two, or three, or however many, weeks of not lifting, not bending, not standing, meaning not getting my fix of time at the lathe - I start questioning whether I should have agreed to it.

A few weeks later I've generally managed to see the up-side of getting things fixed.

Congratulations on your good sense to say "I do" all those years ago - she's most definitely a keeper.

I greatly appreciate the genuine remarks by the members. It means a lot of me. Dr. Wife is keeping close tabs on my activities. Right now, I would give anything to blow my nose to clear out all the crud and corruption that has accumulated over the past three days. Dr. Wife found the bio for the ENT doctor and he is highly qualified. We are getting a list of questions to ask. He also mentioned somethings that can be corrected for future problems. including discontinuing one steroid nasal spray. Tuesday should be interesting. One positive note is the doctor's office is close to a good BBQ restaurant.
Duncan, thanks for your comment. Long ago, a friend ended an email with SWMBO. Explained it- She Who Must Be Obeyed.

Again, thanks to all for your genuine expressions of concern. Had a follow up visit this morning with the ENT doctor. He was pleased that everything looked OK. Took me off a prescription nasal spray that he said dried out my nose. Seems my nosebleeds were a result of a blood thinner, dry conditions and the nasal spray. Told me to get an AYR nasal spray with aloe to keep my nose moist. Recommended taking it easy for another day or two. Don't bend over at the waist as this puts pressure on the nose. Squat and bend my legs and lift. Saves the back, too. Got a laundry list of things to do in the shop for the holidays.

Glad things are looking up. I have had 3 sinus surgeries, last one about 20 years ago. I still remember the restrictions.
My wife and I are coming up on 53 years in December and she still talks to me. Best thing ever happened to me.
You will be back turning before you know it.

Mike
