Buy the chuck from Woodchipshome($60) and get a set of ER-32 collets from 800watt on eBay. You can get an 11 collet set for $50. 800watt is a little slow to ship, sometines, and does not answer emails; but no one here has ever been stiffed and everyone seems to have been satisfied with the product, myself included.

Go to the eBay main page and select the buy button. Then enter "er32 collet" in the search field. You shopuld come up with about a 40+ auctions including four for 800watt.

Let's make it even easier. Instead of the above, enter "er32 collet 11" in the search window and you will see his auctions without all of the others. And forget the buy button thing.....there is a search window right on the home page.

Sorry, I am late to read this thread. I have a Carbatec 4VS that has the 3/4 x 16 tpi and I got the Beall Collet Chuck from Charles at WoodChipsHome. I think mine was the first of that threading he had sold. He and Mr. Beall told me that if there were fit problems that they could fix it. It worked perfectly on my Carbatec and I love it!

I wish I had known this before I got mine. Thats a killer price on the collets from 800watt. I still prefer the chuck from Beall.

I got my 3/4 by 16 from Charles at wood chips. works like a champ.

All the collets are handy, but to support mandrels you only need the 1/4 and 5/16 sizes. Add the 1/2 inch if you plan to invest in the Az Sil closed end pen mounting compression chucks. If you buy the size D and M drill rods, and a couple of threading dies, you will have all the mandrels you need for a long time. Drill rod comes in 3 foot lengths so you need only cut to length and drill out the ends with a #1 center drill. Have fun

I bought the full 18 collet set from 800Watt for $115 then another IAP member bought the same set the next week for $95. He was a little slow in shippig, did not answer emails, but the stuff did arrive.

Randy,
The set is fractional... 1/16 to 3/4 or .078 to .787. Here is a link to a similar set from MSC Direct. http://tinyurl.com/yrhfgs

Don: That set would only contain 12 collets, not 18 if it is in 1/16th inch increments?? The link you provided is temporarily down so I couldn't check it out. Guess we still have a puzzle.

My set is in a wooden box with a label that states: R8 ER 32 Spring Collet 18 piece Set. It includes the following sizes in 32nd inch increments: 3,4,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,14,15,16,18,19,20,22,23, and 24. It also included the R8 chuck for which I had no use and sold to another IAP member, so the actual price of the collets was $95 ($5.27 each) plus the shipping and paypal fees.

You just tell Woodchips what lathe you have an he will have them make it for it exactly. Mine is 3/4x16 and they made it . Same price and its awesome ! Another world when it spins smoothly !
