I am venturing into bowl and box turning. I have the 3 on buffing system which works for pens, but am finding difficulty in using it for bowls. Any input on which diameter bowl buff is the most useful or can you get a morse taper adaptor to mount single buffing wheels on the lathe and are they better. Thanks much for any input.

go back to the beall web site.

get one morse taper @ 8.95
get one combination adapter @ 15.25

At this point you can place any of the bowel buff kits you want to the adapter.

hope this helps

Are you using the buffing wheels?
Tripoli - Diamond - Wax etc...
I use this same set up for my bowls and all other turnings
They do make a Ball for buffing the insides of a bowl.
They come in a 3 inch or a 2 inch - I would recommend the 2 if you are going to purchase them. I have the 3" and would prefer the 2 myself - But then again if you want the 3" I could sell those to you and I could get the 2" ...LOL
You can PM if you have any questions that I can help you with.
Good luck
Kevin

Thanks for the replies. I am using the wheels now. All three are mounted together on a shaft together and ran on the lathe. The wheels are too close together and when you try and buff a bowl, especially the inside the wheels grab the thing and do a great job of slinging the bowl across the shop. I will definitely look at the Don Pencil stuff. Thanks

I have the beal system with the 3 seperate 8"wheels, plus the 3" bowl buffs. I recently picked up the Don Pencil buffing adapter to mount them with: http://www.donpencil.com/WNTADAPTORShtm.htm

What I have found is the 8" wheel pretty much can do it all, except when I go below 6" in diameter. This is when I turn to my bowl buffs. The 3" has worked wonderful, but there have been a couple times I could have used a slightly smaller diameter. The tapered holder that comes with the beal system works....sort of... you really need to use it with a draw bar. This is why I went and ordered Pencils buff adapter. Being I have a 16" swing, I opted for the 1 1/4" x 8 tpi. I have to admit, I love the thing. All you do is screw it on and forget it. It works with his wheels and the beals, being they are sized and threaded the same. It also has a hole drilled through it in case it locks on, you can put a screw driver through to knock it loose. Take note, Don Pencil's stuff is on sale at the moment. The one con I came across was my buddy ordered the same adapter sized 1" x 8 tpi for his delta mini. It needed a slight modification in order to get it to seat all the way on his spindle shaft. The strange thing was it fitted perfectly on the jet mini in my garage before the modification.

Order up the bowl buffs, but give the Don Pencil adapter a hard look at, you won't regret it.

So from the pics and the website. the extension is threaded for the headstock and there is another threaded hole for the buff to screw into? I like that the system gets the wood away from the headstock and it looks like you have plenty of room to work. Thanks for the pics
