Beall Buffing System

I bought the Beall Buffing System, 3-on-the-lathe version. It is too long for my little Jet lathe -- the tailstock doesn't quit get seated.

Do I need to get a bed extension for the lathe, or just use the buffing system with only the headstock attached? I dont' know if I can use a drawbar -- the hole in the end of the morse taper is very small and I can't tell whether it's threaded.

What kind of lathe do you have? I have the Jet 1014 nad it works, tight but it works.

I have the 1014 also. Must be doing something wrong. I can't get the tailstock to seat properly. It misses by about 2". I will have to check my equipment to see if I've got something out of whack.

What about your live center on the tail stock? Some of them stick out a lot further from the tail stock than others. I have the larger/longer live center and I don't think my buffer would fit if I didn't have a bed extension.

I've got a 60 degree from JohnnyCNC and mine works fine. Worked with the stock live center as well.

To be clear on your one question you do need to use support (live center) at the other end... Do not try to go without it.

For those of you who have been losing sleep and skipping meals wondering whether I solved this puzzle, I did. I replaced the 60 degree live center on the tailstock with the little puny live center that came with the lathe, and it fits -- barely. The tailstock hangs over the edge of the lathe bed by about 1", but it locks down securely. I want to say that the manufacturer should have made the mandrel about 2" shorter, but if you see it in action, there is hardly room to pass a pen barrel between the buffing wheels.
