I received a parcel of supplies and accessories in the mail today. Included was a Beal spindle tap.
I had watched the videos on it over the years and looked like a nice accessory.
I tried it out this afternoon by making this chuck for my vacuum chucking system . I was quite pleased with how it cut the threads so nice and clean.
I have made vacuum chucks previously by using a big 1"x 8 tpi nut and fastening it into the wood with epoxy but was not real pleased with that way. The 1" nuts that I found locally had real coarse threads. I was also forever wondering if the epoxy would let go when mounting a heavy bowl on it.
With this tap the threads fit the spindle perfectly nice and snug.
A 3.5" chuck like this only made of plastic costs $54.95 plus S/H of course . I am sure this one will work every bit as good so the tap at $17.99 has WAY more than paid for itself already
