I've turned hundreds of acrylic and wood bottle stoppers plus a few acrylic shave brushes. With that in mind these are routine in my shop. I expect heavy chips everywhere at the start and I am usually covered in the stuff until they are round and the dust collection takes the ribbons as I expect. Yesterday an acrylic stopper literally blew up. Chunks, not chips were headed out like a grenade blew up. I found them feet from the lathe. I'm fine, but definitely happy about it. I did nothing novel and did not get an unusual catch or do a dumb idiot thing.

Be mindful of big pieces of plastic spinning at 3800 rpms!
