So this last Friday I was finally able to get back in the shop. What a difference the base shop is compared to my Dad's (even though he doesn't have high end stuff) and the Woodcraft in Reno. It's not a bad shop overall. They do have a lot of stuff but when I was ready to sharpen the gouge I wasn't allowed. I kind of understand this since many people can ruin tools if they don't do it right however as he was setting it up to sharpen he realized I had done it right and to top it off the edge wasn't that great. Also it is my fault for assuming that they would have CA readily on hand since it is a base shop but it would have been nice to be able to purchase some.
I did get one pen done but had to use Hut's polish and some EEE cream or something. Stuff I wasn't used to and the directions were half ripped off. The good part of it is that I was able to convince the wife that we need to buy a lot of the stuff (minus the big power tools) that we would need for the shop now rather than wait. Of course now I have to wait for those things to arrive....argghh. Just makes me even more antsy for my own garage at my next duty station.
