Here is my entry in the the Bash Picture Frame Contest in the Odd sized catagory. Its made from barnwood that has a lot of character marks. I think there was 13 nail holes, a nail hole blow out, and a part where some the wood had splintered away years ago. I really like to get these types of thing in barnwood frames. I think it makes them look even more rustic.
Here is a couple close up of the nail hole blowout where more than likely the nail head pulled through the board rather than releasing from whatever it was fastened to. The first one is the frame laying down and second is the same hole from the other side with the frame standing up.
This shot shows where a peice had splintered. It breaks up the straight line of the frame, but is subtle enough that you eye doesn't go straight to it.
