Mine broke at the weld today. Not sure what happened to cause it. It was 70-1/2 length, 1/2 width and 3 tpi; seems to be a general tooth arrangement. I only cut wood or the various synthetic materials for pen blanks or wood turnings. Woodcraft has Starret and Timber Wolf blades; only recognize those brands. Surprised that Lowe's, HD or Ace only carried small sizes. BTW, none of those listed on Woodcraft had reviews. I did find some places online that stock them and/or specialize with them. Your input is most welcome.

Fred, thanks and looks like they carry a wide variety. Will call to get a definition of their terminology- neo and flex.

I've bought both Timber Wolf and Olsen brand blades for my Delta from Amazon. I've been happy with both brands. Never had a weld break yet and I've stressed a few blades in my time cutting uneven bowl blanks.

I've been using Starret but I do have one Timber Wolf that I haven't tried out yet. My saw uses a 93-1/2 blade and I seem to gravitate to 1/2-inch width, 4 TPI, with Skip Tooth because I cut more linear feet out of soft woods than I do hardwood pen blanks. (I started out with those brands because I could get them from our "somewhat local" Woodcraft retail store.

So far I haven't had any blades break at the weld, but it makes sense to me since the heat and cooling from doing the weld leaves behind a HAZ (heat-affected-zone) that is commonly more brittle than the rest of the blade unless it is perfectly annealed after it has been welded. You might even check with the blade manufacturer as many of them guarantee their welds, so if it breaks right at the weld they might replace it -- if they guarantee their welds that is.

I have had blades break though and the "Bang" always scares the crap out of me.

Dave, have no idea why it broke but...suspicious that I was trimming a tubed blank and maybe got it cross ways where the teeth caught the edge of the insert. Didn't have a miter but that's on the to-do list. Jusst got an email from the local Woodcraft store. Band saw blades on sale and have my size- 70-1/2 inch.

I have both a Timberwolf and a Wood Slicer. Love them both.

My first Wood Slicer broke at the weld and was replaced at no cost to me no questions asked.
