OOPS -- I mean TABLE Saw blade. I was going to mention that I only had a bandsaw before, but got crossed in my mind.

I picked up (literally - a neighbor that was moving was throwing it away) a Skill 15A 10" table saw ( Shop Skil 15-Amp 10-in Table Saw at Lowes.com ). It runs fine but needs a new blade. What's on there was pretty cheap and probably not worth trying to do anything with.

Rockler has a Freud thin kerf on sale @ $79 but comes with a $25 gift card. Amazon is about $10 cheaper, but no card... so I was thinking of picking it up. My needs are minimal, and I have $0 invested so far.

So is this a decent choice, or should I look elsewhere. I'd prefer thin kerf I think.

The arbor is a 5/8". I tend to prefer buying fewer nicer tools, so is the more expensive blade worth a little more ($55 net cost)? Is it a decent blade? Is there something that's a better alternative? I don't mind spending a bit more if it's worth it but don't want to waste money either.

Freud makes pretty good blades, but you need to get the blade style (number of teeth, etc) that best suits the material you are cutting. If you are cutting a lot of plastics get an ATB tooth (alternating top bevel) and not too many teeth. When cutting plastics the more teeth the higher the chance it will run hot and start melting the material. Less teeth gives you bigger gullets and get the material (shavings) out of the way faster and generates less heat.

Plus if you get a good blade (carbide tipped) you can get them resharpend several times before you have to replace them.

For my money, Stehle makes the best blades for the buck!

I've had a carbide tipped 42-tooth ATB, general purpose 5/8" bore blade for many years.
It's been sharpened twice--once because I hit an embedded nail.
After a Forrest Woodworker II, it's my go-to blade.

Amazon has the Stehle for $32; that's a very good price!
