Band saw box

A few weeks ago I asked if I should remove the sap wood from a section of walnut. Taking your advice i left it on cut it in half and made a band saw box for my desk. I left the it in the form of the trunk (or branch). I like how the top of the drawer and the fits to the box. It follows the shape of the curved trunk. I turned a small clear knob so as to not distract from the walnut. The two pockets were milled out. Two coats of BLO and two of wipe-on poly.

There was a craftsman here in Tellico the first couple of time we came up that specialized in bandsaw boxes... I could spend hours looking at them.... always thought I would try one, but haven't yet.

Amazing what a you can do with a chunk of wood.... beautiful box, should be a great conversation piece.
