Band Saw Blades

If you intend to do a lot of resawing you will need a blade 4 TPI for wood up to about 6" wide, 3 TPI 6-10" wide.
Some people swear by a 3/4" blade for resaw but IMO 1/2" is more than sufficient on a 14" BS. 3/4" puts too much of a load on the motor. More friction in the wood.
For general BS work 6 TPI is fine. If you intend to do a lot of small diameter curves maybe get a 1/4" blade, otherwise stick with 1/2".
Others may have different experiences.

Depends on what you are cutting and what the risks of rock and metal might be.

I use cheap 3/8 inch blades for roughing out bowls and cutting green wood. I occasionally get rocks and steel in "urban" wood. Occasionally I find a bullet or similar in a piece of wood packing crate or similar. Pallet wood is a good place to hit some steel. This is the bulk of the cutting I do -- 5-7 bucks for a 101 inch blade.

Dry wood that is clear of metal I tend to use bimetalic blades (high speed tips welded on a spring steel back).

Resaw for veneer I like the blades from Highland woodworking or similar high quality blade with a fine set.

I have a 14 inch saw with a 12 inch throat
