Hard to show this one off because it's ugly but I learned a lot. I needed to trim out a tree from a pot in my back yard so I used the middle one. Wet it was 2" in diameter but dried was less than 1/2". It also lost 96%of it's weight. Took 40 hours to dry but stabilized quickly like palm. It was light and floated when I was casting so I wedged a cutoff in to keep submerged. I intended to turn it off but I liked it. I have a few large trees that I will try after I harvest the bananas.

OK... It is pretty ugly  . But I love seeing and hearing of different types of materials, so thanks for sharing your experience.

No offense meant, be well!

Had bananas in my back yard in Houston. Every year I took them out down to the ground. Big wet slimy things.

No offense taken, it's hideous. I do like the way the crosscut looks and may try a pen with just cross sections. I also cast one in clear to see what that looks like but haven't turned it yet.

Had no idea the trees were that juicy . In the wet cross section , is that 5 yearly growth rings ? I think the dry cross section idea has potential .
That's about 3 months growth. This species grows to about 12 ft in 18 months but most of the growth is the first year. Between 18-24 months you get fruit and then cut the tree down so a stringer can grow.
