I've been working with tight joinery lately and there is no comparison between a good marking knife and a pencil line. I broke my old rosewood knife that had been given to me years ago and couldn't stomach the price tag for most of the ones out there. Found a few of these ferrules for sale and had to make one instead.

Thanks for looking

Very nice. đź‘Ť

Having attractive quality tools are a joy to work with. I am slowly taking my most frequently used tools and making my own handles.

In the early 70's my brother and I had a leather goods business, i.e., belts, wallets, purses, sandals, etc. Cutting the desired shape from side of leather using heavy paper patterns was time consuming and could be inconsistent. I started making permanent cutting dies using Birch plywood and steel cutting rule from a paper company. They offered two types of cutting rule...center cut and side cut. I soon found that the side cut was more accurate. I have often thought of making a marking knife from the side cut cutting rule. Here is a cross section of what they looked like.

Awesome, if you don't mind, where did you get the ferules?

How cool is this? I just joined this group and discovered something I made in just a few minutes of scanning the board!

This blade holder is basically a copy of one designed by Matt Estlea and favored by Jonathan Katz-Moses. Matt knows I am making and selling them and is OK with me doing so. I make the hardware from stock brass rod and tube on a little Unimat lathe/mill. They are designed to hold Swann-Morton Craft Blades but the larger variety of x-acto blades also fit in and are securely held by the blade holder.

I have sold out of the last of the last batch of 70 that I made, BUT.. I'm working on another batch of 200 that I should have done in early November.

If you want some from the next batch you can fill out this form.

I am getting $17 or $18 each depending on ferrule diameter.

Thanks for having me!
