Backing painting difference

I don't make many slimline pens, but if the sell I'm ready to make more. To that end I prepared two pairs of tubes for turning slims. One chipped just at the end leaving me with a single tube. It was back painted with light blue Testors; the tubes sprayed matte white. I grabbed another pair of the same blank this time with white back painting and white tubes. The single tube became a keychain. The red blank was white/white and might have been better with pink or red back painting. Such a difference!
These beautiful crush blanks look better with a bit more color behind them to me.

The heat has abated a bit but the smoke is awful. I moved a cord of wood to a close neighbor so they will be warm next winter. Breathing was labored even in the morning.

I always paint both just in case.

It's amazing to me what a difference back painting can make. These are both from the same blank, both with 27/64" tubes, both Elegant Sierra pens. They look like totally different blanks.
