Dale Parrott recently posted asking where to find a certain captive ring video he is looking for but can't find.
I must admit that this video is the first one I thought of when I read his title about a captive ring video.
I've only been hanging around IAP for a month or two, so I'm sure this 5 year old video has been posted here before but, being reminded of it, I just couldn't resist.
I shudder to think how many hundreds of dollars in tools we could spend (not including the actual lathe) to make that one chess piece this guy makes with one old (but apparently well cared for/sharpened) skew. I wonder if he sharpens it on a Tormek or a Worksharp 3000.
Some people say that everything they need to know they learned in Kindergarten. Maybe I should say that everything I need to know about lathe turning, I could learn from this guy.
How many of us have been guilty of using dollars to compensate for a lack of skill and practice by buying more and "better" tools? My hand is in the air.
Anyhow, enjoy the video!
