Could someone enlighten me as to how a woman can get it in her head that husbands and boyfriends have any interest in attending a baby shower or a wedding shower?

I told my wife a few years ago that I wouldn't go to another one, wouldn't feel guilty about not showing up, wouldn't miss the time with the other poor slobs who were guilted into showing up, and never, and I meant never to ask me if I have changed my mind when yet another goofy invitation shows up for one of these events.

I'm not that old of a guy and I would certainly not call myself "old school" or old fashioned. I don't whine about the fact that the women married to my buddies don't like to sit on my deck and smoke cigars and drink scotch and tell fart jokes. So why do they see the need for men to join them in cooing about tiny baby outfits or china and crystal?

In my day we did it a little different. We held wedding and baby showers for the men. No silly games, just a few gifts, lots of beer and snacks. A great time was had by all. The ladies weren't invited.

A few years ago a friend of mine was getting married and his parents were hosting the shower. It was required for couples to come. The shower was held in the horse barn (really nice barn). The men went to the indoor arena where they had horseshoes, darts, a pool table, and a keg. The ladies had the paddock with the a/c, their games, and became the designated drivers.

One of the cards my wife received at her bridal shower was a cartoon titled, "Why grooms don't have showers". The picture was of a group of "Bubba"-looking men sitting around a living room, and the groom-to-be is holding up a pair of tighty-whiteys (the gift he just opened) and saying, "Ah love it!"
