After a lot of consideration (as well as your advice) i ordered the axminster pen mandrel. They call this model evolution and it was sold as a set with 4 slimline pens, 4 pen blanks (2 made of wood and 2 synthetic) and a (very good quality) tube trimmer for 7mm tubes. The mandrel looks solid and accurate and i think its an overall good deal. Here are some photos with an ebony blank i am working with,cheers.
