Was away this weekend and got on the topic of my woodworking (surprise suprise) anyways, was sitting next to a young lady of 16. My wife's cousins daughter and when the mentioned of pen making came up she nearly fell off her chair in disbelief. She just couldn't grasp that someone could make a pen. I showed her my carry pen which just added to the amazement. It was so amazing to see someone that excited about this craft. It has been a long time since I've seen that much excitement. I decided then and there that I would send her a pen. Originally one from my inventory, but that's not good enough. I will have to make one especially for her. I haven't made a pen in a little while. This was just the bump that I needed.

Its moments like that, that keep me turning, and why I don't carry many of my pens with me anymore. lol I used to carry a favorite pen with me every day at work. The problem was every time I used it, someone would comment on it and I would end up giving it away. Probably another reason why my wife has more than me. :)

update

so this is what i came up with. it was a really hard decision. personally i think it might be a little too manly, and i should probably have gone with a sparkly acrylic. but i like it. it is a chrome baron with chechen burl from a past pith. i decided to go with a satin wax polish on this one to really give it that wood look and feel. any way. thought i would share. i think she will like it.

sorry i didn't spend too much time on the pictures

Nice pen. Its an interesting finish--I have never heard of satin wax polish. Does it hold up nicely?

If you think its too manly, there's no reason why you can't send her an acrylic one too. You might be creating a new penturner!

If you send her a second one I would suggest a Fountain Pen, It's a type she probably has never been exposed to and would enjoy. Maybe something a little more sparkly.
Just a thought,

Well some reason my post didn't stay.

Basically the girl got all excited about woodworking, not resin or acrylic working. I think she will be elated by getting an actual wood pen. I think you went the right way with her.
