A few weeks ago I increased the maximum size of our avatars to 100x100px. Previously they were 80x80 because years ago that was the common maximum size.

(Avatars are the small pictures in the posters info box - in my case, my mug shot just to the left of this post...)

The size does not automagically increase, but you can replace your existing avatar with a bigger version. You do that from the Edit Avatar section of your UserCP.

Post here if you have any troubles with that.

I went to my user cp and clicked on the browse button then found my photo. It looks the same to me. Maybe after this post, I'll see a difference. I didn't see where I could select the size. No big deal. Just thought I would try it out. Thanks Jeff.

No, it looks the same. Maybe already maxed.

Chuck, I think yours is already at max as one side is 100 px.

Mine was an 80 x 80 gif.

I resized to 100 x 100 and tried to upload, but it didn't like the Gif.

I then opened it in Paint and then saved it as a png file.

Then uploaded it here. Resizing worked but loses some of the sharpness.

Edit............:redface: Oops!!! Forgetting my manners !!

Thanks Jeff!!!

Slight tangent, if I may. On the topic of avatars, I've wanted, for some time, to compliment Skiprat on his. Makes me smile every time I see it. And he even managed to put a Santa hat on it for Christmas! I am constantly amazed at the creativity of people on this site - in so many ways. Russ

Thanks Jeff for the larger avatars.
I'd like to see this as an opportunity for all members to show everyone who we really are.
Good or bad photo of us is fine. If Jeff can do it we all can.

Guys, you need to REPLACE it with a bigger one:wink:
 A BIGGER ONE?? So, I need to go back to my file and increase the size maybe?

Because your avatar image is rectangular and not square you will get 100 pixels horizontally (max) but not vertically. Same thing happens with a tall image, vertical 100 pixels, horizontal < 100 pixels. The image is always kept in proper proportion. You could stretch the image to fit 100 x 100 but then it would look distorted.

Just a note if you're trying to resize your picture. When you upsize your photo it will be slightly blurry. It's always tough to 'add' pixels. If you have a larger original image best to crop/size from that one.

OK...but I'm not touching this conversation on the relative merits of size!

We can keep it clean Dawn....trust me

Fellas, when you initially downsized to 80x80, pixels were terminated and cannot be recovered. If you upsize, the image just becomes more blurry.
For the best 100x100 image, go back to the original image and downsize to 100x 100. Then REPLACE the current avitar

I am not sure why it would not like the GIF. It should take any format, GIF, JPG, PNG, etc. The max filesize is 24K, but GIFs are pretty compact, so I doubt that was the problem.
