Will auto repair fiberglass resin work for casting pen blanks? I know nothing about casting and didn't know if there is a difference or not. I did build a pressure pot though.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The quick answer is , yes it will work , however there are some problems with "General Purpose" resin .
First is the color of most general purpose resin is a greenish brown or purple color when cast in blocks . You can use powdered pigments to color the resin but it only works with dark colors .
Second , because it is not made for casting it has a thicker consistency and it cures much faster then casting resin making it almost imposable to get the bubbles out of it .
Third , it makes a mess . When you turn it you get allot of fine powder instead of shavings , you still can get the streamers but it's not like casting resin .

Oh , and most importantly , it cost about the same as casting resin . So it's better to just buy the clear casting resin like Slimar41 from companies like Mr Fiberglass and USComposits .
