On December 7, 2011, at 10:00am EST, I made two parts orders. One from Austraila. One from Philadelphia. Both offered free shipping.

The order from Austrailia came in on December 14, has already been made into a pen, shipped to the customer AND RECIEVED by the customer.

With ANY LUCK, MAYBE thr oder from Philadelphia MAY arrive today.

When a company half way around the world can ship FASTER by 5 DAYS, it is embarassing for American business!

If you really need it quickly from the Philadephia supplier, order it from one of their resellers (like the one in Indiana). Even if they don't offer the items you want, they will order it from the Philadephia supplier, get it overnight, pack it up and have it shipped to you the day it arrives, and you will have it a day or two later.

Embarrasing AND pathetic!

I ordered som really neat mucklucks from a small company in Minnesota Monday and they arrived wednesday, I also ordered a part for my lathe around the same time monday morning and paid for priority mail and likeyou........ am hoping it arrrives today.

This is not a problem with the mail service alone, it has a LOT to do with individuals who wouldn't lift a finger to go an extra inch let alone an extra mile to get the job done in a timely manner.

American companies are so consumed with phrases like "Quality is job 1", "Customer satisfaction is our #1 goal", "Your satisfaction is out #1 priority" that we don't even know what they mean anymore.

Edit: Andy, It just dawned on me that we're probably talking about the same company!

I order goods from McMaster-Carr (Cleveland, OH) and I receive them "next" day. I order from our local suppliers literally a few miles away and I'm lucky to get goods in three(3) days. Some companies are great with shipping while "others" are just sh*t.

George I hope you got some of the Ojibwa style mucklucks.

Andy - Welcome to IAP. If you would do some searching on here you will find that your experience is the norm. Oh wait you have been a member for 2-1/2 years.:biggrin::turtle::turtle::biggrin::biggrin:

Yeah, Mike. I know, I know!

The products I ordered are not carried by any of the resellers. I need 4 black pouches that matches the other black pouches going into a big razor order.

To add insult to injury, the ONLY WAY to get 4 black pouches is to order 2 sets of assorted color pouches ($40).

I keep TRYING to give this company the benefit of the doubt. The truth is they simply SUCK!

I ordered one item from the PA dealer and about an hour later realized I forgot something. I called and asked if I could just add it to the prior order. They said no. Since it was my fault for forgetting I was not upset. Shipping confirmation for both items came in the next day. Package one was shipped UPS and package two was shipped by some no other service. UPS got the first package to me in a week the other package got to the PO a week after that. If it was going to go to the post office anyway why was not shipped through the post office. I would have gotten the item as soon as or sooner than the UPS package.

Unless it is something only that company sells I won't be buying from them again. I like the vendors on IAP any way. In many cases their prices are less than the big guys.

I've had the same situation, over and over again. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt too, but it gets old. How do they stay in business I wonder?

Philadelphia may be the City of Brotherly Love, but that company's ability to communicate is zero. I ordered one of the "starter sets" for one of their new pens and was shorted the two chrome pen kits. I have attempted to communicate with them twice to see when the delinquent units will arrive but get no answer. It may be necessary to backcharge them to get a refund!

I have had a recent post regarding this company, which shall remain nameless (wink wink nudge nudge). They sent me a parial order with 2 items on backorder until Jan. 12. Kinda hard to make Christmas gifts if you don't have all the items Before Dec 25. I called and they are sending me a comparable item which is great but now another week is lost. The woman told me that they shoulda called me to let me know. To which I replied "who do we call about that?" they are not going to change until it hurts their bottom line. That's why I try to use Woodturningz the most.

This is neither a + or -, but does concern the above unmentioned company. I placed an order 12/8/11, received the usual automated confirmation. Skip forward to 12/15/11. called to check on the status as I didn't received a shipped notification(as was promised in the order confirmation). After spending the oblitory 10 mins on hold finally got a person. Said the order was shipping that afternoon(12/15/11). Package arrives today(12/16/11) via UPS. Not complaining but I'm pretty sure UPS is not that good. Who's kidding who's?

That unmentioned company really needs to work on customer service! Like most everyone else, I just avoid using them unless there is no other choice.

Now to get my Christmas turning finished.

Carl

Just an aside, I ordered a set of bowles from Crate and Barrel yesterday, arrived today via ups with the above order. Somebody got it right.

Andy,

At this rate I bet you could buy a Yard of Velveteen at the fabric store and have a seamstress or quilter make you a lot of Black bags for less than $40.00.

The comment of "Quality is Job 1" etc. for the last 12 years or so the ONLY thing that matters to the vast majority of American companies is Profit. I hear a lot of complaining about "lousy Chinese goods" etc but all of the Chinese crap has the name of an American company on it. If the goods from China were not what the company wanted they would not put their name on it and we would not see it.

This is not the first time you have had problems and they seem to have more business than they can handle so obviously lousy service is not a reason for you to take your business elsewhere, so you get what you ask for.

I also use that unnamed Minnesota company for Just about everything I wear, I have had one pair of work pants for about 15 years now. After googleing maybe I use a different Minnesota Company.

Not to sidetrack the thread but...........Good Grief, is their only ONE store in Minnesota? If one were to say they bought a Cowboy hat in Texas, that would narrow the retailers down to about 11,673!

Mention buying boots in Minnesota and everyone knows where you're talking about!

Andy, If it will make you feel better, I got my speed control for my lathe in today's mail so I'm a happy camper now!

Cliff:
They are leather pouches that cover razor heads. This is the only place I can find that sells these Indian made pouches.

This in not the first issue, but a continuing problem. IF I could find that Indian supplier, I'd no longer need this Philadelphia company, as I have found other sources for all of the products that I bought from them in the past.

AND...you should GO BACK to that Minnesota company and buy a second pair of pants:). YOU GOTTA DO LAUNDRY, SOMETIMES:)

Good grief! (yes Charlie Brown is on tv a lot these days) I may or not have an issue with a unmentioned person on a unknown web site somewhere in a country we are all familiar with.

I think I got a headache reading this thread! :hypnotized::hammer:

Not ONLY is Charlie Brown on TV! I'm sure he's running a pen parts house! Of which BOTH are "fictional".:biggrin::biggrin:

Sometimes we need something from Pennsylvania and we deal with them. Even as a relative noob, I know the issues with their service, and figure on that when I order. For most products, good quality, better prices and far better service is available elsewhere.

It appears that their business model is to concentrate on selling to the resellers and fitting us independents in where they can. Since we are still somewhat of a capitalist economy, that is their decision to make.

There really is no use to us bashing them. They have a way of doing business that they think works for them and they will stick to it.

Our best bet is to order from them when we have to, but put most of our business with the businesses that cater to our needs.
