Aussie oil finish on shave set

Ok guys been a long time since I have been turning, just got a new lathe.
making a shave kit finished with Aussie oil question is will it stand up or should I spray over with poly or can I even spray with poly?

I don't have any experience with wood shave sets, but I would think the oil would eventually rub off. The only shave set I ever made was with acrylic. It was a gift for my son when he graduated from the correctional officer academy.
