I'm amazed at the lack of consideration that some pen turners have for other
pen turners.
Did a show this weekend and had a person enter my tent stand in the middle of my pen display eating an apple and getting apple funk all over my pens,
after a few minutes I figured it was time to push this guy onto something
or get him out of the way so my "real" customers could at least get to my products.
After approaching the individual he started asking questions about one of the
Damascus pens I had on display,( I never pre-qualify a customer )so now both of us are in the middle and people are leaving the tent.
When I move to close this guy on something, anything to get him out of the way,he looks at me and says "I do a fair amount of turning myself" what makes this *&^$%#((^$@ think that I really give a ^$&@.
Had he said that up front I would have loved to talk pens with him,but instead he felt it necessary to block my display and get his fingerprints on several of my Highest priced pens and when I told him to take a hike
he looked confused.
When you see a pen display at a show Please be considerate of the person
trying to sell the pens,Their there trying to sell pens and maybe make a friend or two,not give you a course on penmaking.
Sorry just had to vent.

There seems to be a lot more "Legends in Their own Minds" since the internet came about! I don't do pen shows but it isn't only with penmakers.
I do a large international hobby machinist/engineering expo. We have people that bring their work from around the world. It can varies from somebody starting out, to people that are recognized in the field as Master Craftsman.
People will stand there in the least and make really stupid comments, and act like the person on the other side of the table can't see or here them.
I try to shut them up at least, or embarrass them. Since they are usually spouting off to a new person in the hobby.
It is sad but they need the attention, nobody they know will listen to their B.S. any more!

I would make up a couple of signs for the outside of your tent and some smaller ones for the table display area.

"Please no eating, drinking or food in the tent, thanks" and "Please don't touch items with dirty or sticky fingers, thanks"

Unfortunately, Stupidity is a God given right, and people seem to use it more often now!

:eek: I always like the couple that are looking at your items and the wife says " I would realy like to have that' !! And the guy, usualy with his arms folded over his chest, replys " I can make that, there's nothing to it". All he needs is a few thousand dollers worth of equipment and 2 years of practice to make something that actualy will stay together. If he asks a question, it's something like "how did you get that round"? I don't mind sharing tips and tricks with someone with a genuine interest, even if they aren't turners. I hate wasting time on "know-it-alls" or people that have no respect for your knowledge, craftsmanship, or property. Jim S

People like them should be put in their proper places. It is a blatant disrespect of your hard work and time. They should be ousted the moment they come near any of your precious pens.
