Arizona has made it against the law to protest at funerals within 300 ft similar to an Ohio law. They passed it in 90 minutes and is being signed by the governor. This will prevent namely the Phelps gang from protesting at the 9 year childs funeral when she is buried later this week. I hoped to just state this and not create any religious or political statement and if I do I apologize now.
I am sick and tired of the Phelps family and the atrocities (imho) they do when they picket our fallen soldiers funerals and the other things that spew from the orifices they have in that empty head (because there is no brain). I know I am ranting, sorry

In south Mo. and north Ar. whenever Phelps threatens to show, POW/MIA bikers line the area, and private citizens file for assembly permits to take up all surrounding space. It works out nice, peaceful, and non political.
 
Without getting political, I completely agree with banning them from doing this. I am ashamed that they live in the same state as I. The real sad thing is that Fred Phelps was a civil rights pioneer in Kansas in the late 60s and 70s...
 
Sorry Curtis was not meant to be if you think it needs to be deleted please do. I was ranting more than anything and I wish to keep it civil.

Nothing wrong with your post, Jerry. I just thought I would post a little reminder to everyone that political posts do not belong on IAP and to please not let this thread go that direction.
 
Curtis ... I assume that you are up and back on patrol. I also trust that you are getting better with each and every day that passes.

As for these protesters I think others ought to just out number them by the hundreds at every turn. :cool:

Heck, I was always here, even when sitting in the hospital bed being poked and prodded every hour in the middle of the night! I am still not "back on my feet" so to speak. I have a lot of pain and am enjoying the hydrocodone! Still not back to work yet and mostly am just sitting around, allowing things to heal. I can only imagine what it would have been like if they were not able to do it via laproscope. Amazing what 3 little holes in your abdomen will do to you!

Curtis is the only person I know who has checked in, and attached a picture to verify it, while sitting on a gurney waiting to be dragged into surgery...

Luckily, it was a front view so we didn't have to see the inevitable 'inadequate hospital gown from behind' shot...

Don't even get me started on this.....what is pathetic is the fact that there even needs to be a law to prevent this type of crap in the first place!
Why in the world would any sane person choose to disrupt the funeral service of anyone, much less a 9 year old little girl who died in such a horrific way? Arrrr! :mad::mad::mad:
I'll tell you why...because this country has been inundated by morons who are more concerned with DOING WHAT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO instead of simply DOING THE RIGHT THING.
Sorry, I normally don't post to these type of threads but this one really gets me going.

Hopefully this is a non-political response.

It is unfortunately that we need the legal system to protect humanity for the insensitivity and rudeness of others. Every family, even the family of convicted murderers who are put to death in our legal system, deserve the common decency of greiving in peace and privacy.
 
I have spent some time and much conversation with my bride discussing this very thing. We are guaranteed the precious freedom of free speech by our Constitution, laws and out court system. However, it has been tried and proven that there are limits to individual freedom of speech. Where my nose starts, your freedom ends.
I have been very surprised for quiet sometime now, that there has been no violence at one of the 'demonstrations' carried out by these so called good 'Christians'. Violence I am not advocating by any means. I am a peaceable man. But the time to demonstrate is not in the face of a grieving family. One would think that the spiritual leader of a church would have at least read his Bible. "Judge not lest ye be judged." This whole mess with these idiots is just one of grabbing their claim to their few seconds of publicity, 'Hey Mon, look at me. I'm on the TV!' and waving. I used to watch this happening with 7 - 10 year olds on Popeye right after school on the local tube. Same thing. Children waving in front of a camera. Take the cameras away and they will vanish, blown away with the wind like the chaff they are.
Curtis, very glad to see you back taking care of us. Rest, take your pills and get well. Idiots like myself need your guidance to keep this wonderful site family orientated. If I have gone too far with my rant, just blow this away, no pm needed. I will fully understand.

Freedom of speech, according to the writers of the U.S. Constitution does not allow one to yell "fire" in a crowded theatre and cause injury, nor is it a "right" to disrupt a funeral which is private and not a public affair....

Arizona seems to have some common sense legislators at a time when common courtesy is lacking, and rudeness and cruelty are trying to hide behind the Constitution.

Well living here I am actually proud that they passed that law. I couldn't stand hearing that the Phelps group was going to protest. Sick sick sick.

As an active duty soldier I will tell you that we are briefed, thoroughly, by our chain of command about the Phelps family. We are not allowed, while in uniform, to approach or speak to them, which is a good thing. With regards to the Patriot Guard, God bless them. The last funeral I was at for a good friend, there was over a mile of the Guard two abreast that escorted us to and from the church and quarantined off the Phelps group. I never would have thought a group of Harley riders would bring tears to my eyes.

I've given my entire adult life, 22 years in the Army, to protect freedom of speech and our other rights, but it makes me sick that they abuse those who give them the right.
 
It is one thing to write and sign a law and another to enforce and administer it. I never saw anything on the punishment for breaking this law. Sure hope they took a page from Iran's book and thought about stoning.

Chances are, those bikers are members of the local Patriot Guard Riders. We stand honor guard for fallen soldiers and provide escort when asked/authorized by the family.

I have been able to attend a few "Missions", although not as many as I would like due to work constraints. We have encountered the "Phelps" group a few times. I believe they protest for the publicity.

The police had them across the street from the church. Hopefully, our flag line shielded the family and friends from them.

I lived in Topeka, KS for about a Year (it seemed like 10) the home of the phelp's. Really a bunch of wacky wacky folks. They had little 10 year old kids out holding signs on street corners that were so graphic I probably would get banded if I put them on the forums.

I think there is also a group formed now in Arizona called Angels of something or other that are going to show up with 20 foot wide angel wings to shield the phelps crew from view of the funeral.
 
....all because simple, everyday courtesy and common sense has been overun by being politically correct. I am not advocating violence in any way, but the only way this kind of ridiculous behavior will ever stop is if everyday people are allowed the right to stand up and simply say enough without the fear of being dragged through the mud by publicity seeking attorneys ready to sue the world. Most people cannot afford the cost $$$ of fighting for what they believe, thus they fade into the background.

I don't know of any other group than the Phelp's who do this particular heinous thing. They call themselves a "church," but they are not. It is only the Phelps family. The daughter, an attorney, is one of the lead protesters and has made it clear that she will make anyone's life a legal hell if they 'interfere.'

The 'riders' are members of various groups, not just the "Patriot Guard." The VFW riders and American Legion riders also participate in protecting the families of the fallen.

I understand the ideal of 'free speech.' I understand rights, both government mandated and God given. What I don't understand is how our society, in the name of 'free speech' and 'rights' has totally eradicated being bound by morals and ethics.

You may have the protection of free speech, the right to say what you want, but are you morally and ethically right in doing so? We need to weigh it on all three scales, not just what some lawyers say I can do because I have been given the 'right' to do so.
 
I just heard on the news that this group has "agreed not to protest at the little girls funeral" in exchange for interviews with the local radio and news channels. However, they are still planning to protest at the funeral this Saturday of the judge who was killed. So much for allowing someone the digninty they deserve at such a terrible time.

Just another example of good, honest hardworking people being held hostage by the rantings and demands of lunatics.

Alright, Bill Marr (probably spelled wrong) has nothing on me about being politically incorrect. When I grew up, idiot children were not protected. If they were just too stupid to live, then they died doing the stupid things. Breakables were not put up out of reach. Poisons were not locked away behind padlocked doors. Receptacles did not have tamper proof covers shoved into them. Pill bottles had lids that could be opened by anyone.
Now, for some reason, someone decided and convienced the leaders of our country that the world had to be made perfectly safe for everyone. Today, the idiots that used to die in childhood are encouraged to survive to adulthood making it dangerous for what few normal people here to move around the world.
I remember once when I was around 9 or 10, sticking something conductive into one of the receptacles. The resulting contact knocked me across the floor. I landed close to Dad and he just looked down and said, "Was that fun Charles? Want to try it again?" I knew right off that I did not enjoy getting hit with electricity. So my goal after that was to become an electrician. yes, it still hurts when I am stupid enough to make contact with live wires. But our children today are never allowed to learn this fact. And we are more in danger from the idiots like the Phelps family. My $0.02 for right now.

When I was about 8 or 9 my favorite tv show was "robinhood". For christmas I got a robinhoob play set that included a castle made out of sheet metal with the crenulated wall pattern you see in castles. I bet it was dangerous and I bet you can't make them anymore. I used to have play guns that came with real leather holsters and looked real. you can get those anymore. I had a switchblade knife I bought at a five and dime store and a slingshot. Probably can't get those anymore either. All the stores were closed on Sunday, now they are open. I opened a savings account at a local bank and used to put 25 to 50 cents a week in it. Bet you can't do that anymore either. I used to get news from the big three TV networks. It was part of the price they paid to have access to the public airways. It was reported, in my view, in an unbiased way, "Just the facts." Now you can't even get that. It's all pundits and partisans blasting out their message. Now you can't even get news. No telling where it will all end up. No matter where it is, there will always be nut jobs, but it seems like there are sure more now. And when nut jobs have kids, they usually train their kids to be nut jobs so you end up with more and more.

On the other hand the first car I rode in didn't have any seat belts, had a metal dashboard and I'm sure no collapsable steering column. I also used to have my feet xrayed by some big weird machine everytime my mom bought me a new pair of shoes. They don't do that anymore either.

My two views of the future are either "startrek" or "madmax". I think the Phelps clan is part of the madmax future so let's hope we have a startrek one. So someone quit turning pens and get to work on Warp Drive.
