Anyone use an end mill for squaring?

I've not seen it mentioned before so I am not sure if it is a bad idea ...

Could you use an end mill [like this one] for squaring blanks on the lathe?

Basically same idea as shown [here] but with with an end mill instead of sand paper.

Is this over kill?

FYI I have no experience with end mills, it just sems they'd work similar to the barrel trimmers sold for pens.
 
I have used an endmill to cut in a recess. No problems with it. I typically use a forstner bit to do the work. Works like a charm, and thay are available at all the hardware/box stores. I've heard that a router bit will do the trick as well, but haven't had a chance to try it out.
