Anyone turned the CSI Apprentice Soft Grip pen?

This kit is unlike any I have turned before. After you have turned the pen, you use a parting tool and remove part of the blank down to the brass tube. then you apply the finish.

I could use some counsel from someone who has turned these; seems like it might be easy to mess it up.

I haven't turned one in close to 20 years. The only thing I can think of is when you part it off, make sure it's square.
