I see that the green 1 horse small dust collector is on sale for like $89. I am looking at buying it to use on the lathe in the basement when I make pens so that it catches all the shavings coming off the lathe. If anyone owns the DC, let me know how you like it and if you bought a newer 1 or 5 micron bag to use in place of the original.

Thanks,
Mike

I've had one for about two years and it sucks great. I've since added a Wynn canister. It's well worth the $89.

In one of the HF ads that showed up in todays mail ad#1416, the green machine 1hp mini dust, 13 gallon #31810 is on sale for $79.99. The ad runs through 6-11-07.

I have the HF red lite-mini and it really SUUUCKS! I dragged it into the house and discovered the hardwood floors have cracks between the boards!

I'll have to look again then as the red one was $10 cheaper than the green and the green was listed at $89. I was just going to get the red one, but the green one seemed really well built, plus the red advertises 900+ cfm, which is nearly impossible. At least the green unit says something like 5 or 600 CFM.

Thanks for letting me know the unit you have really works.

If you are trying to catch the shavings, you may find it difficult without a good shroud placed fairly close to the work. On the other hand, they work great for collecting sanding dust (which is the real health problem anyway).

I bought the the red one cause it was lighter to move around. It works very very well. I have one of the dust collector heads that fits on a 5 gallon bucket in line, and am amazed at the stuff that is in it. I run a 4" hose segment to 4 - 2.5" hose segments to be able to move around, without moving the DC couse you end up dragging the bag... So much for moving the DC. Speaking of bags, whichever one you get you need to replace the bag. Grizzly has a 3 micron for $14.95 + S&H

or a .3 micron on sale for the summer at $35.00 + S&H

The red Lite DC from HF uses a squirrel cage for its fan, I haven't thought to look at the green one to see if it actually has an impeller. Just a extra thought.

My next DC purchase is to get the Clear Vue Cyclones Mini CV06 Cyclone $150.00 + $15.00S&H. A video of the CV06 is here...

It may not be the absolute best but it will do for the present, and is significantly better than nothing.
