I sold a pen to a Marine today and he asked me if I could make shield display for his NCO sword. I said I'd have to investigate how it's made first. Does anyone know how to make one or have some plans?
The display looks like a shield and the NCO sword and scabbard cross behind it.
Thanks
Jim

you could put wood on four spots on a bigger piece. Then cover these with a smaller piece of wood.

O1 O2
O3 O4
Then slide the sword from the top inbetween numbers 1&3. 2&4.

James,

If you will send me an e-mail address I will send a couple of pics of my saber plaque.

It's a relatively simple set up. Just a couple of angled cuts in the boards that hold the front shield to the back plate. Then just cut a wedge or two to hold things in place. I'll get the pics ready for you.

I've made a couple. They were rather simple to construct, a piece with a couple dados crisscrossing. You can put another piece behind and use wedges to hold things in place as mentioned. But I only did crossed swords, not a scabbard. remember that a scabbard is at least three times as thick as the blade, so it can get bulky back there.

I got one that was made in the PI about 20 years ago, its just three layers of wood, with the center being the size of my officer scabbard. Its in the shape of a shield.

I had to actually take soft wire and bind up the cross where the sword and scabbard met not a great design. Been empty for number of years, seems I keep drawing the short straw and end up in the ball sword detail.

I got some great pics from Snowbeast. I was overthinking the whole thing, it does seem pretty simple. Now after I make it I have to find someone to lend me a sword to test it. I thought the swords were issued but my boss said his Naval Officer sword is about $400, so he doesn't have one yet.
