I hope to be visiting my daughter and her family in Jacksonville FL early Oct. Would like some information on good fishing places to take my granddaughter (daughter and hubby don't fish). Maybe some good "off the beaten track" restaurants you recomend and of course any good pen turning stores.

Jacksonville is large -- it's all of Duval County.

Clark's Fish Camp is a treat.

Joe's Outback Crab Shack at Six Mile Marina off SR 13 near nothing is always great fun and the food is typically fresh and delicious.

I grew up in Jacksonville, but have been elsewhere for almost 50 years.

My Dad used to fish on Trout River. There is a railroad bridge that parallels North Main Street - the area surrounding that bridge was always pretty good for croaker (yes, that's probably a 'garbage fish', but it is pretty tasty).

As for restaurants, Singleton's Seafood in Mayport, immediately adjacent to the ferry terminal, is a place that my folks always took us when we went back for a visit.

Thank you all who responded gives me something to look into. Near the JAX Navel base about 15 minutes from where he works. He works on the P3s as a mec.

Oh, so he works on NAS JAX, probably in hanger 1000. That's all you had to say. Whitey's fish camp is down that way and Joe's crab shack is down at the beach. The other suggestions that you got earlier are great too. I spent 15 years bouncing from Naval Station Mayport to NAS Jacksonville and miss the place terribly. Have fun and hope you enjoy your time there.
