I was looking on the American Cancer site to find out how to donate procedes. I saw boxes to check if you want to donate to a team or participant. I guess I might have to do it that way. Unless someone else knows. If I get a chance this morning maybe I can call them. Just seeing if you might have the info first.

My wife and I wanted to donate to them, we were going to set up a page on her jewelry site, that all items purchased on that page would have the proceeds donated to them.

When I contacted them they wanted to put me through so much red tape, that we finally gave up, they litterly shot themselfs in the foot.

Not only that they wanted a commitment of X amount of dollars per month guaranteed if we were to use their name and logo on the page.

Some times I wonder if it's a charity at all or just a charity disguise for a large corporation to keep the CEO, COO, CTO, etc. with big paychecks.

Had the same thing happen with the american diabetes org or soceity or whatever it was called.

Now we just donate to local charities, so we know the cash is not going in some CEO's pocket.

Rant done......

You have to admire the Juggernaut the breast cancer thing has become. On the other hand as Danny said they seem to be more corporate than charity because of it.

The way around the red tape is to NOT use the logo and just say proceeds will be "Donated to breast cancer research" Then you take the proceeds and donate them under your business name. Of course this is on the honor system and if you don't make the donation, woe is you in the karma department.

Our family has a relay team that I donate the proceeds from my pen sales to. It seems to work well. Last year I donated $1000 and I hope to donate $1500-$2000 this year. I tried selling the pens at the actual relay with very poor success. I sold 5 pens for the entire weekend. My hat is off to the folks that have the patience to work shows.

Tim, did you use the logo on the pen?

That's kind of what we do now, but like I said we do more local stuff, after dealing with the large charity we tried 4 or 5 of them, they left such a bad taste in my mouth with the corporate greed type of thinking. I don't think we will be helping them out any time soon.

A couple of them wanted something like $3 or $4k a month minimum, that sure is not geared toward small business helping them out any time soon, they also told me we couldn't mention them by name on the site even if we still were not going to use their logo, or sign their aggrement.

Guess they are rich enough, don't want us little peeon businesses to help.

No, I didn't put the logo on the pen, but I did put the relay logo on my business cards. I called and got permission before doing so.
