My wife is supervisor at a dollar general warehouse. She's always bringing home snacks and stuff from damaged boxes. Lol She works nights, so she is sleeping right now and not sure where she found this. I can tell it was on a lathe at one time. Lol Not sure what I might be able to do with it or what kind of wood it is. It's about 4" long and 3" width.I'm thinking the plugged end might have had a knob sticking out and broke off? Thinking about drilling that end with a forstner bit. Whay say you?? Lol

Finial for a piece of furniture? As to drilling out the plug, if you were going to use a forstner bit, I would fill that current hole with sawdust and epoxy or drill and plug, as the forstner bit might have jump around a bit if the lead point isn't embedding first.

Like Hans, my first thought was a finial for a piece of furniture or even an newel post, but as I look more, maybe a (crudely) turned foot/leg for a piece of furniture like a sofa or love seat.

Sounds logical. I think I'll just put it on a shelf in the shop and maybe mess with it one day. Not much use for it right now. Thanks for the responses.

Probably too late now for this year but how about a small bell for a Christmas tree ornament?

I'm thinking about drilling it thru and making a duck call out of it. It looks like it may have a very nice grain to it.
