Lucky you. Randy that is great thinking. Remember no pics didn't happen. Please show us your great catch when you get it.

Don't know where I seen or heard this but I think its better to leave fresh antler a year or two before turning. Is that true?

Not qiuet that long normally and it depends on where in the growth clycle of the antler the animal was harvested but antler dose indeed need to cure a bit before use or it will crack.

I love antler pens simply because most of my buyers are hunters.
Keithkarl, I've turned old antlers and freshly shed antlers and have seen no difference.

Here's the load of axis sheds that I picked up on Saturday. 85 pounds!

BTW for those who are unaware of how the sale of game animal products works in many places selling that pen would be illegal. In the majority of places I have hunted the sale of ANY part of the harvested animal is in fact a violation of hunting regs and can lead to some STIFF penalties. Several states here in the US require a "transfer of ownership form" to even give stuff away! For those who are not familiar with the hunting regulations in their area be very sure you know the law in regards to selling game animal products! A judge wont give a rip that YOU did not do your homework!

Not trying to be an ass but are you SURE you can use that antler paintspill? I can't even use ground shipping for several of the materials I use because it would have to go through Canada!

Shed antlers cure in the woods and do not have the same moisture content as ones removed from the deer, elk, antelope, moose, caribou ect.

In the case of antler it is not atmospheric moisture thats the issue it's moisture from the animal it's self. Sheds are dead and no longer have any moisture from the critter, thats why they fall off.
