The real reason behind my antler binge is that the boss, Lida, told me that I needed to make some more antler pens. As always, I jump to please my wife (especially when she tells me to do something that is fun). I have used up most of my stock of antler. I did mostly bolt actions but decided to try some antler on a skull kit to simulate bone.

Those are wonderful looking pens! I have antler pens to make for Christmas presents this year so those are a great inspiration.

I have not seen antler with a skull kit before and it looks great! Very fitting I believe.

What is your finish process on them if you don't mind me asking?

After turning, I sand with 400 grit and then use Pens Plus friction polish. If I have one with porous pith, I put some CA on 220 grit sandpaper and slurry sand to fill the voids. Once the voids are filled, I sand with 400 grit and then finish with pens plus.

If you have never turned antler, use dust control and wear a respirator, antler dust is hazardous.

Thank you for the information!
Yes, I am well prepared for the dust control.
Thank you for the reminder though, it never hurts to keep safety in mind.
Although it definitely hurts when you don't!

I agree with the above respondents about the skull pen. I think the two pens with the deer head clip is also a great choice.

Cody:
Have a bunch of Elk and deer antlers that have harvested over the years , so I thinking better use some of them up.
So hope I have good results as you have. Good work.
