I agree with Marla, and also will vote for Hickory. Not a commonly used blank, but it has it's positive features.

Lol, I'm a poor boy with a lot of scrap wood. I use whatever I have on hand to keep from buying a lot. I know the better sales are in the more expensive woods, but let's just say I'm working up to that. I'm selling quite a few pens in the $20-$30 range. Not exactly getting rich, but at least I can support my habit.

Buddy, It's not necessarily the price of the wood, it's what you do with it. If you still have some antler and hickory, cut sections off the ends of each and swap. A quick segmentation and would add interest. You could add some accent between them with a slice of aluminum (aka Coke/Pepsi can) or thin plastic (coffee can lid or cutup the can). Lots of recyclables out there you can used. Even old or high interest cards have a use.

And the pen looks great.

I like how the remaining exterior of the antler ties the hickory into the design. Nice work.
