Anyone else getting invaded by ants. Seems like everytime I turn around there are ants somewhere in my house. I am going nuts trying to keep these little buggers at bay. This year seems horrible compared to past years.

Anyone have a good ant spray for use inside the home? Outside the home? I don't even know where to start. i just can figure out where they are getting in. If it was just 1 room it wouldn't be so hard, but I have found them in about every room in the house so far.

It took us a couple of years. A combination of ant traps, spraying inside and spraying the outside of the house. The last one is what I think helped the most. Sorry, I don't know what brand we used.

" I love the smell of Napalm in the morning...."

Seriously though, we use some stuff in a green container by Ortho from the big orange box retailer, and it does wonders for the ants. We also put out a once a year broadcast deterrent in the yard, and that helps out a bunch as well. Neighbor gets all that ants that way!

We used some Combat Gel stuff. You put it along their path and the really like it and eat it and take it back to the nest. Be very weary using around pets and kids though.

Go to the pool store and buy diatomaceous earth spread it around the foundation of your house in a 12" wide run. Almost all bugs hate the stuff as its razor sharp to them, but only dust to humans. This is prehistoric ocean creatures and is dug from deposits, its a super safe way to do it. a box last years never goes bad as long as its dry. You need to just keep them out not try and fight them as you never win(they are oragnized enough to form an army,LOL). Good Luck Sir, Victor

Put a brass tube of your favorite kit in a mold with a little honey on it, then set it in the yard. Come back a couple hours later and fill the mold with pr(hopefully the tube is covered in ants). Turn the pen from the blank and show us a pic. If it looks good you may be able to make these ant blanks into a business and slowly you will erradicate them.[^]

Now that right there is funny. Sounds like a great idea. To bad I don't know how to cast. Someone want to give this a shot. lol

Growing up my mom would plant speariment (or was it peppermint), either way the ants don't like and stay away. We used to get those big fat black ants, I think they eat wood.

Actually, if you could get a nice transparent amber color to the PR, embedded insects would look just like fossil amber. I bet it would sell.
You just have to figure out how to get the little buggers to hold still while the resin cures.:D

I remember as a kid in Sacramento, long lines of tiny little ants marching head-to-tail from the middle of the yard, down the sidwalk, up the steps, across the kitchen floor, up the cabinet, across the counter to whatever had been left out. My mother would boil up a kettle of water and then trickle it up and down the whole length of the line of ants. End of problem (until the next time).:D Now that I live in New Hampshire, all I see in the house are great big ants and then only one at a time. I just smush 'em.

My recommendation is to call an expert and have them treat your home professionally. If you do call a professional, demand they use Termidor on the outside and Phantom on the inside. Termidor was used only for termites in the past. It has been approved for ants for a few years now. It works through a transfer effect. Since these products are odorless, the ants don’t know it’s there and travel right through it. They pick up minute amounts and as come in contact with other ants, they transfer the product throughout the colony and within a day or so. Phantom is made by the same company and works in the same manner. Termidor is for exterior only and Phantom is for the interior. Termidor will bind with the soil and can only be used every six months. Believe me, you will only have to have your home treated every six months with this product.
Now for you Do it Yourself people. Go to a Bug and Weed store or something similar and buy either Demand CS or Talstar One. These products are microencapsulated and offer a longer residual action than regular products. My guys use both of these products. I like to follow the ant trails and drench the nest if I find it. They both can used inside your home. Before you jump into it, I would ask that read the label. Buy an 8 ounce bottle and you have enough to treat your home once per month for the next 3 â€" 4 years.

You would have flying ant guts if you turned them. It's supposed to get 67 degrees F. here today, and there's still snow on the ground. It's disappearing fast though. Haven't got any ants except in the shop on all my wood. How many do you want?[}:)][}:)][:p]

I think you are a pest control tech? I used to be.. I did it for 5 years. Was a branch 2 manager.. I still have some Diazon and Dursban left over.. They are illegal here in CA now.. Not sure about the rest of the country thou.. I think I even have some dragnet...

Any good roach powder will work great on ants. Alight dusting of BENGAL ROACH POWDER will keep ants and roaches away.
Out side we have the leaf cutter ants. They can and will strip a tree or shrub of leaves but they are neat to watch carrying their leaf parts up and down their trails. Long as they stay outside and don't eat the Gardinias, I leave them alone. However, Fire Ants must go and Ortho makes the best outside ant killer.....just don't breathe any of it.

I would suggest diatomaceous earth. it is best if you can spread it where it will not be cleaned up again, behind cabinets, inside walls etc. it actually kills the bugs that do try to crawl through it. I would also use a poison that is carried back to the colony. sprays only kill the ants you see. the colony will just send more. the type of poison that they eat will get shared and kill everything in the colony all the way to the queen. the problem with poisons that they will eat is that different ants are attracted to different things. some are sweets while others are water. if one type of ant killer does not work try anouther.

Yeah, I was for 3 years in North Dakota then I opened up Chicago for Ecolab. Then Detroit, then I was a manager in Chicago, Detroit then the Cleveland Pittsburg area. Then VP for Ecolab in New York for 7 years. Now I own my own Pest Management company here in Arizona. We don't do homes, but we do most of the big resorts here and all the Banner Hospitals, US Airways Airplanes, just bigger commercial stuff.
