What point do you sand your pens to before you start applying CA?

Is there a good video on the complete process of CA finishing?

I go all the way through micro mesh steps. the final steps are more polishing than sanding.

I usually sand wood pens to 400 grit and then 1500 Micro Mesh before applying the finish. Some people sand/polish to 12,000.

I go up to 400 grit before applying CA. I sand with the lathe on, then stop it and sand with the grain with the 400.

Chris,
400 grit and 1500 micromesh are too close in abrasion, that they are interchangable. You may want to save your meicromesh pad and stop with the paper

As often as possible I just use the skew and skip over the sanding. Works well enough of the time for me to reccomend learning how to do it.

up to 600 dry, apply CA then start at 320 wet on through 12000m

i stop at 400 or sometimes 600 if I have some handy. I clean the blank with either acetone or rub it down and wipe it clean with BLO if i am trying to make the color deeper. I then put on 3 or 4 coats of thin ca and then sand with 400 or 600 again to make sure I have a good solid base coat of ca on it. then finish with how many ever coats of CA i'm going to use.
