I've been looking for laquer that I can use in my air brush. I can find spray cans, which I have used. I can find quart cans of brushing laquer, which says not to thin or spray (I did try it, but it is too thick). Where do you find laquer to be used in an air brush

If I can piggyback, I have another question: How do you deal with the cleanup? Admittedly, I've never used an airbrush, but it looks like the cleanup would be about equal to the full turning time. Do you leave it in the container? What's best way to clean up the air brush?

I use Deft laquer in the quart cans and thin with laquer thinner juat enough so that it will spray a nice fine mist from your airbrush. For cleanup have another bottle filled with laquer thinner and switch out the bottles and spray the thinner through your airbrush into an old rag untill you have it all cleaned out. I use about a half of a full bottle to thoroughly clean out the brush. You can then put a cap on the bottle with your left over laquer to save it for the next time. It's always better to finish several pens at one time instead of one at a time.

I use Behlen's Qualalacq Gloss from my local Klingspoor. Thin it 50/50. Clean-up just like Lance suggests. 10-12 ligt coats about 30 min. apart, wait a week and sand with 600,800 and MM to 12,000.
I don't find it necessary to sand the wood any higher than 600.I've tried MM to 12,000 and I just can't see the difference.

Steve,I will second what Lance said about
thinning the Deft in quart cans.I have done this
and shot it thru a full size gun;works fine,
and a bunch cheaper than the aerosol cans.[:)]
(Their can says not to thin or spray because of
newer regulations to do with "air pollution".)

I also use the Deft quart can. I usually thin 80/20 lacquer to thinner, no more than 75/25. Never had a problem shooting it in an airbrush.

As far as cleaning, I do what Lance does. Every so often, I break the airbrush down and clean the parts in lacquer thinner.
