I've made several Falcon pens from PSI, and am a fan of the minimalist style. This one is obviously in gold. The blank is a CamoSwirl Navy Camouflage from PSI. Not sure I'm a fan of the colors. And it's not very "camouflagey". Plus, it's polyester resin, which is brittle like inlace acrylester. Turning it was not fun. It did polish up nicely, though.

Personally I like it very much. So what are you going to do with it? You gotta remember where the Navy is, on the water, so the blues look like the Ocean. When I was serving everything was OD green, not good on a ship. If you're looking to sell it, PM me and we can talk.

I appreciate the compliment and offer, but I'm going to give it to a friend who likes the ocean. When I said it's not very "camouflagey", I meant that it doesn't have the traditional (to me) camouflage patterns. When I think of Navy camouflage, I think of the Woodland camo pattern, but in blues, whites, and blacks. I've turned a couple over the years.

Thanks for responding. If you ever do another one like this please let me know. As to the Woodland camo, well when was the last time you saw a tree in the ocean? I wear Woodland Camo when I hunt on my property to "blend" into the mountains and trees. The ocean is constantly changing creating "waves" of change and varying color. It used to be OD Green when I served, doesn't make much since in an ocean environment. If you do another one let me know, I'd be very interested in getting it.

I would say this isn't a beginner's blank. I've been turning pens since 1999, acrylics for at least 19 years. Now I'll be the first to admit, in spite of my experience, I'm not really a talented turner. I can't even use a skew properly. At the risk of blowing my own horn, I will say I've had many more successes than failures. A lot of that, though, is from pure dumb luck rather than any talent on my part. Polyester resin and inlace acrylester are the most challenging blanks I've turned, and I truly hate them. I would recommend starting with acrylic acetate (AA) blanks. They're softer, easier to turn, and more forgiving. After that, I would try Rhino blanks. They're more "chippy" and harder than AA blanks, but not as difficult as PR and IA. There is a huge variety of Rhino blanks with some truly spectacular ones.

Since I'm going to give this to a Navy veteran, I decided to switch it to a gun metal kit. I like it a lot better.

I just looked up the Falcon kit on PSI's web site. Looks like it may be discontinued soon. The only one I could find was in antique brass and it was on sale for $3.97 down from $10.95. If you like them maybe you should act quickly.

Yeah I saw that. I do like the pen, but I've made quite a few. I made 7 of them for some of the girls at work back in 2016.
