Dyed this one with dark red mahogany aniline dye disolved in alcohol. Let it sit for about 4 days. Box elder and finished with CA/BLO

Hi, nice pen,it came out real good. I use aniline dye a lot,but i mix the dye with hot water. never tried any other way,so i have to go your route for a change.When you say alcohol,you mean DNA ALCOHOL ? Does it dry right away or does it stay tacky for awhile ? Why do you wait 4 days ?

I use both DMA alcohol and methyl. The DNA is really hard to find in Canada but the methyl can be bought in any hardware store. I drill the blanks and drop them into the alcohol and let it soak 3 or 4 days. They usually sink in the alcohol. Gives the colour time to work it's way into the blank. I always figured if it's just on the surface it will wear off eventually that's why I soak for 4 days. When I take them out of the soak I let them dry overnight before turning.
