Since we canceled DISH, we decided to check out if we could save money on our cell phones. We had T-Mobile, two completely paid for phones and they just upped the cost to $133 dollars a month. I did some online research and landed on Mint Mobile. We use very little data so we opted for 5 GB, unlimited talk and text plan with a grand total of $15.00 a month per line. Paid for a 12 month plan, $360.00 for an entire year. Phones work flawlessly, like nothing even happened and we're saving $100.00 dollars a month. The irony of the situation is T-Mobile owns Mint Mobile and they all use the same infrastructure.

That is excellent. We have two Tmobile lines (phones are also fully paid). We pay 60 total for two lines, unlimted everything. I better check my bill. Thanks for the heads-up.

We did the same, switching from postpaid to prepay with Total by VZW. Or Tracfone. We're extremely low use & got a year of flipfone use for $100. Another thing we found is that identical phones via the prepay service were 50% the price of the postpaid service.

I've switched my phone from VZW to Ultramobile. I have the plan with 5Gb/month, for $14 instead of VZW around $70. They offered a further discount for paying a year up front. And I can earn credits if people sign up through a link they gave me.

My other phone was on Ting - that was pretty good, but a bit more expensive so I switched it to Ultramobile. I have no complaints so far.

We are going to have to do something too. I'm just always concerned (probably too concerned) about coverage out here in the middle of Nebraska for anyone other than Verizon, but the cost is rapidly becoming prohibitive. - Dave
Dave,

That was us too regarding VZW in our sparce areas once you get out of the Sioux Falls city limits. Been using VZW since the mid 90s due to coverage in the more rural areas. It's always a bit concerning when you get into the 'no man's land' when switching phone numbers between carriers for a few minutes.

Total by Verizon and TracFone are both owned by VZW (AFAIK). The one potential drawback is that IF/When the circuits get maxxed out, the VZW postpay customers get first dibs on the bandwidth and the prepay VZW resellers get throttled. I think MVNO is the technical term that applies to all the prepay resellers of the 3 major flavors of cell service.

Currently on plan offered by Public Mobile for $17 CAD. Very happy with service being provided that offers
unlimited text but only 100 minutes per month (I am not a yacker so no worries). I use my phone in case of
car breakdown if required.

My wife, son and I have been on Mint for about 18 months and have been happy. We had good experiences with international service in Canada and Peru, very easy to setup and use. The only issue for us is the coverage (T-Mobile Network) is weak in some of our areas and for me, that they don't offer Apple Watch plans.

So... I am seriously considering switching to another pre-paid. US Mobile. Their current deal is $29/month for 12 months up front for unlimited talk, text and data (and hotspot) with a watch plan included. International talk and text is included as is data in 90+ countries. And, wait for it... they are on all three major networks (Verizon, ATT and T-Mobile). You choose the network you want to be on and with this plan and their app, you can even move between networks depending on where you are and what your needs are. It sounds almost too good to be true, but I have a former coworker who switched a few months ago. I need to check in with him and then make the leap. They have other plans that are less expensive if you don't want/need the unlimited everything and the watch data plan.

That's great info. The inclusion of the watch plan might be the deal maker for me. Been on Mint for a couple years, but the lack of a watch plan is frustrating.

We switched from T-Mobile to Consumer Cellular. Our costs are $15 a line and $5 for 5 GB shared. $35 a month ++ (state and federal taxes).

I believe Consumer Cellular uses the AT&T infrastructure, which works well when we're out of the house. In and around the house, where the AT&T signal is 1 bar, the WiFi takes over.

I have a phone, just a phone, not a "smart" phone and I pay $10 a month. It would be less but the fewest minutes per month they offer is 100, I might use 20. H2O wireless is my provider.
