Here's a clock I did over the weekend. It is approximately 7" in diameter and turned from curly maple.

Sharp clock!

I killed my old shop clock, and the mechanism was still good so i did the same thing! Now i have a handy dandy hand turned clock (somewhere)

Very nice.
My 7 year old asked the other day about a clock like that. How do you know what time it is? Due to lack of numbers.

Well now it can be any time you want it to be.

Plus if the battery dies, would anyone know?

Looks good .. plenty of face to show off the curly maple, too.

Many of those clock mechanisms have an optional hanger. So, if you leave the "guts" hanging out, you can hang the clock from the mechanism. Looks fine, in real life.

Of course, a major consideration is the length of the shaft that goes to the hands. There are a few lengths available, but you have to make your wood match the shaft you have. (Yeah, I know, read that anyway you want!!)

We did a lot of stained glass projects with these clock mechs. Want a few dozen???

I like your wood version better than the "flat bottles" we did!! Beautiful curl!!
