another Clean New Lathe Thread

My new Jet has a protective coating...like a gel. What is a good degreaser and what kind of protective lubricant do you coat the lathe with. I'm cleaning the lathe in the garage and prefer not to stink the place up. No Kerosene or mineral spirits to be used. Thanks. Frank

I use acetone and a rag, cleans things up nicely. Then i use a teflon lube for the ways and banjo. Just my way and it works.

I use Zep citrus degreaser. Home Depot has it. I use it for anything greasy.

I have used that in the past on other things, great stuff. Never thought about using it on my tools, thanks Jeff for the reminder.

Teflon based lubes rock.
I have TriFlow. It has teflon. I swear by it and might use it.
