Nice bowl, Cody. I really like the top view. The interior is very nicely done - always the toughest part and the part that is seen the most. Curious - did you turn it green in one pass?
One other Q - was the shape of the exterior intentional? It's interesting, but the elegance of that cherry almost asks for a single, continuous curve.
A professional turner taught me to turn bowls green in one pass, if they are turned thin enough the stresses are relieved and the bowls will not crack. He sells his bowls and globes for some hefty prices, so I figure that he knows what he is doing. On bowls of this size, I shoot for a thickness of 1/4" or less. When done this way the bowls may warp after drying but that simply adds character in my opinion.
The exterior shape was intentional and yes a continous curve would have worked well. I just decided to go for a little different look. I have got another piece of this cherry mounted on the lathe and have already decided to go with a continous curve. My 4th and final bowl from this wood will be a natural edge if all goes as planned.
