Another CA problem

Recently I Have notice a problem with my CA finishes. I use several coat of thin then med like many here. I then sand all the way to 12,000 micromesh and they have a mirror like finish....they look perfect. I have done hundreds this way.

On several pens, when you look at them a day or 2 later, they have a white residue on them and they are no longer mirror like.

What is happening????
Any advice?

When you said white residue my first thought was to wonder if you are storing your pens in a box, case, or something similar. If so, this may not let the CA used to put the pen together out gas and may be causing the white residue or haze. Just a thought.

Maybe moisture in the wood trying to escape?

Hi,

I think Les Smith is right. If CA is not dry enough, it will haze to white, as it is curing. I know that many here will probably object to using an accelerator, but if done right, I have never had a problem with it, and this way, i am assured the glue is dry.

I usually "blast" a very short burst of accelerator between 3/4 coats of CA, and one right after the final coat. i do this at about 2 ft away from the spinning lathe, and I have never had a problem with clouding or anything like that.

I vote moisture if the haze doesn't rub off with at towel.
I vote curing problem if does rub off with at towel.
