I have a Beall and love it and won't give it up. But I was wondering if anyone had gone this route???

All you'd have to have is this ER32 MT2 Collet Chuck and collets...quite a bit cheaper than the Beall...

Just curious...

I have both. The MT can be mounted in three different positons on my lathe, either side of the head stock or in the tail stock. The Beall can only be mounted on the right hand thread side of the head stock but has the advantage of a through hole.

I have this one for my metal lathe. It works great and was the work horse when I had to drill out the 100 50cal bullets recently. only lost one bullet out of 100 due to miss aligned drilling and it was more my fault than the equipments. consider that about 300 holes that had to be drilled exactly spot on. IT does limit the size of through the head material which is real common with a metal lathe, but I also found that if I am turning anything to large for the hole in the MT I can use the chuck that came on the lathe just fine.

I have a Nova G3, I gather that some people call that a scroll chuck, and I have two sets of jaws, both of which tend to be either too small or too large for what I want to turn. It takes a long time to change jaws and the jaws are expensive. I could buy this MT2 chuck plus the ER32 set for not much more than another set of jaws.
I also have a 2MT Jacobs chuck, which I use in the tail stock for drilling and in the head for holding anything up to 1/2 inch. I'd like to get an ER32 collet system and I like this 2MT style better than the Beall because it is smaller, I would be able to get my tools against the turning stock at sharp angles up close to the collet.

I keep talking myself out of this purchase, what am I going to be able to do with the ER32s that I can't do with the two chucks I now have? Is there anything except saving a little a little jaw changing time?

I've been fighting the "to Beall or not to Beall" question myself... for a LONG time.

This definitely has my attention.

The difference between holding small items in this kind of chuck versus a 'scroll' chuck is that the work piece is held along the entire length, not just the 4 points of the jaws.

I think I need this one... but I'll watch this for a little while longer...

Anyone want to talk me into one? ... or out of one?? :D [:p]

Michael,

You can see my beall chuck during the picnic, if that may help you in your decision process. :D You can compare it with my scroll chuck as well. They both have their uses, and I'm glad I do have both.

Cheers!

I will bring two or three MT collet chucks if you would like to see that style. I have one exactly as pictured above I believe.
