Ancient Kauri

For those who may not be familiar with this stuff, this wood is supposed to be 50,000 years of age. It is suspected that it might be even older.

Nice Pen! A friend of mine made a canoe out of that and ancient cypress (similar deal with cypress on the coast of SC). He gave me some scraps :biggrin:

Beautiful Pen! Ancient kauri is gorgeous. A builder on the guitar amp building forum I belong to made an amp head box out if it. Truely one of the most beautiful pieces of wood I've ever seen.

I commissioned Rick Taylor, famous Kauri turning artist in New Zealand to turn me a nice bowl. It came out just beautiful. It just glows when in the light. Chatoyancy!!
