I just wanted to publicly thank Wayne Racinowski for taking the time to read and post my essay "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Pith" in the "Misc." section of the Library (and on the front page!) Although it's a little long, I think it documents a lot of what other members report experiencing in trying things above their comfort level. But the PITH does more than just encourage simple experimentation and practice. Once you commit to make a pen for a partner (and I really liked knowing WHO that partner would be ahead of time) issues of pride kick in to spur you on. As was the case with my partner Greg (Triple Crown), I came to consider him a good friend, and to aspire to give him something he'd be impressed with. So, even though fatigued by multiple Design Opportunities, "close enough" just wouldn't cut it. The only way to accomplish that goal is to improve your technique. In that way, the PITH is a little subversive. I like that! You wind up turning something better than you thought you could.

Thanks again, Wayne. Russ

Russ I felt your pain when I read the article. I was sure that you'd save it the second time I read it. It's well written, and I like that you have shown the learning curve.

Hi Russ! It's a great article! I enjoyed reading it and I very much enjoyed having been involved in your creation of an awesome pen! Thanks Wayne for putting the article in the library.

I agree that the PITH was so much more than just making a pen. In this regard, I also want to extend the Thank You to Landon (hunter-27) and the other members of IAP that made the PITH activity happen. I think that my two PITH pens are the best pens that I have ever made. I also have become friends with some great people by participating in them!!

Again, thanks volunteers of the IAP!

Greg
