I found a bit of interesting wood in the yard yesterday and dried it in the toaster over for a few hours. Today I put it onto a LeRoi kit finished with CA. Any guesses what the wood is? Its pretty common stuff but not often used, especially for this.

Any hints? Rough blank, branch, tree species in the area for seedlings to have developed? I really like 'back yard timbers' for our work. I have turned several: Sycamore, English Oak, Spalted Maple, Beech from my property and my In-Laws. None were burls, but none failed to be pleasing. Thanks for sharing. I have no thoughts on yours yet, but am curious; nice thread.

Maybe lilac? The striations kind of seems like that, although I'm not certain. Perhaps a vine of some kind?

I gathered up a bunch of lilac branches last fall that I've been drying... I haven't used or finished any of it yet, so I am not sure what it looks like finished... The striations to seem to kind of be there in some of the branches I've got though.
