American Patriot set

I got lucky and got an order in for the patriots and I really like them. Here are the three that came in the starter set. Buckeye burl, red-white-blue p.r., & aluminum.

yep 3 for 3, what you use to turn aluminum and is it a metal lathe or ???

The Aluminium is Head and Sholders above the rest.
I wasn't aware that Aluminium was an option on the patriot, or did you source it yourself?

Might as well make it unanimous ... the Aluminum, hands down.

The aluminum came from some bar I have. It started as a piece 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 9' that I have had for years. It cut well on the bandsaws and drilled fairly well. It does get hot quickly. I have a crappy older set of craftsman chisels that I had to sharpen every few minutes, but they made it through ok. The kit it is on is chrome and I thought the aluminum would work and tried it. Aluminum turns fairly well, but it does generate a lot if heat and real sharp shavings. This was all done on a cheap harbor freight mini lathe. I didn't feel like digging out the old bigger craftsman.
